On May 5, 2011, we picked up our baby: a 1985 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia camper.
We don't have an actual baby, so we decided to pour all our time, money and effort into a 27-year-old vehicle.
These are our summer stories, travels, pictures, projects, adventures, lusted-after accessories and anything else that's fit to print.
words and things by vanessa. photos by corey. usually.
It doesn’t get much smaller than living in a vanagon—even if we only do it for weekends at a time.
I bet most of us have experienced at some point the joys of less: college – in your dorm, traveling – in a hotel room, camping – rig up basically nothing, maybe a boat. Whatever it was for you, I bet that, among other things, this gave you a little more freedom, a little more time. -Graham Hill
memories!!
this picture is from our very first overnight vanagon trip: earl rowe provincial park, in june.
vanuary: one man/one van/one month
so this guy is living in a vanagon (in portland, of course) for a month and making a movie about it or something.
i sent this to corey. he said:
let’s do this but let’s make it 4 months and let’s actually travel places in the van.
looks like we’ve set ourselves a challenge…
vanagons are everywhere!
this one’s in varadero, cuba (we went last week).
how did it get onto an island? and how well does it compete with the horses and buggies all over town?
if this shirt ever gets made, you’ll be able to wear your westy love with pride.
too bad threadless voting is closed on this one…
what a familiar interior!
(it’s so strange to look inside other people’s vans. feels like spying.)
this is the view we’re longing for right now.
hello? sunshine? where are you? uggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh canada.
This is my dream dog. She is a Hungarian Visla and I will probably name her Edie (Short for Edelweiss.) Ugh, why don’t I have a yard?! Or a predictable lifestyle?!
On a related note, I am currently accepting applications for a dog-share. We could be like divorced dog parents with joint custody. Arf.
my sister and i have been discussing a dog share for months.
i bet edie would love camping trips in the vanagon. we could take her swimming!
