On May 5, 2011, we picked up our baby: a 1985 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia camper.

We don't have an actual baby, so we decided to pour all our time, money and effort into a 27-year-old vehicle.

These are our summer stories, travels, pictures, projects, adventures, lusted-after accessories and anything else that's fit to print.

It’s long been my dream to take an old, run-down roadside motel and turn it into a cool hotel where people actually want to stay.

It seems that Basecamp Hotel in Lake Tahoe has beat me to it. Sigh.

A comfortable, friendly hotel that prepares travelers for exploring their destination by giving them a great night’s sleep and inspirational, cozy communal spaces where they can share stories and learn from other like–minded explorers.

So we will stay there when we go to California (Vanagon travel is terrific, but once in a while it’s nice to stay in a real bed and have a nice non-campground shower and watch cable). Which we will do as soon as we can take enough time off work to drive across the continent…
